Hi all,

Just wonder what is your goal or target of being a scientist? Getting Nobel Prize? Invent a HIV vaccine or..?

For me, i hope there is an effective treatment for treating advanced cancer rolleyes.gif . What about you?

1. Become a PI...order technicians to do the experiments.
2. Find a cure for cancer
3. Publish in Nature
4. Win the Nobel Prize

I think it is very hard to achieve any of them, especially getting a Nobel Prize.

It is much easier to become a mulit-millionaire (by marrying a rich man) than winning a Nobel Prize. biggrin.gif

well, Nobel Prize is out of my mind
my deams are just to understand and learn more, start a research to invent a cure which can benefit people here in my country or at least make a progress in that field

Point 3 is easy enough.
I think just doing good work that is then built upon is goal enough for anyone.
Fame and fortune are for the vacuous and inane.

Be able to find a working PhD topic.
Publish anything.
Not to fall apart from stress.
Make the lab develop, get new students and projects.

Humble, eh.

And I like to teach. Hell I really like it. It's just I am only good enough to give the undergrads a good start in hand work. In anything else, I'm self-taught and trying blind luck to get my own project.

Dreams...

understand allergies better and find a cure
(although I don't really think that will happen.. but that's why there called dreams eh?)

get my PhD without being stressed out and working more than 80 hrs a week

Be better at it than my boyfriend

Unfortunately I really don't see any of them happening in the next.. o let's say 10 years?

Hey Guy,
I thinks to developing some more effective delivery system and validating them, with the help of it able to decreasing the Tuberculosis and providing better treatment for poor peoples.
In future interesting to developing targeted delivery of vaccine and drugs for HIV and cancer treatment.
I just happy when able to geting answer whether its possible or not ...........one things knowing everything is possible in this world.

I'll ditto that. I just want to get the PhD smile.gif I like clinical science much more than lab based science now, I think working on obscure molecules in a laboratory is too abstract. Doesn't mean that for some odd reason I don't love it..... rolleyes.gif

I hold the view that everyone must die either as part of life or for social stability of human society. So before I shuffle off these mortal coils I want to do something. I want to be part of the group that builds the first ALAI, Artificial Life Artificial Intelligence. That would be the ultimate mastery of biology.

But saying that would be the same as an engineer saying his ambition would be to walk across the bridge of the Starship Enterprise while in Wrap. Something possible but perhaps in a few centuries, if not millennia.

So failing that I would gladly settle on a non-sentient, multi-cellular AL. About the size of a cat… A Flit would be nice

But failing that again I would settle on a singe AL bacterium….

Now failing that again.. I guess mastery over the biosynthetic pathways of a microbe would be good enough consolation. It is more realistic and very humble lifetime goal. BUt at least the ground work would have been set, for somebody else to come and make the future a more colourful and interesting place. Not an eutopia just a more colourful place.

The PhD is just a means to this end.
