Technique for microbial diversity - (Aug/19/2006 )

Hello all,
I have recently decided to take up molecular microbial diversity work from soil samples.To start with i would like to know the best molecular method that could be followed . Any particular comments on RFLP/DGGE / SCCP methods for such studies will be of great help.
