Silver stainging after coomassie? - SDS-PAGE (Aug/15/2006 )

Hello,

I stained my gel with coomassie, but the expecting bands are invisiable... I want to stain it again with silver. Can I just destaine my gel and then fix and do a silver staining. Will these two process conflict? sad.gif

You can stain your gel with silver after coomassie. I have done this with the Bio-Rad SilverStain Plus, was no problem. They just say you should destain the gel with 40% Methanol, 10% acidic acid. And even though it did not destain very much, my silver stain afterwards was very nice. Just try it!
