Schlenk Vacuum line technique? - wats that? (Jul/13/2006 )

Hi,

I read a paper in which people have used this Schlenk Vacuum line technique/flask to prepare the Fe containing sample for protein chracterization. this peotein is homolog to my protein. I want to use the same condition for my protein, but I don't know what is that? If anybody has some idea about it, plz help me.

Thanks

A schlenk flask is a piece of glassware for working with air-sensitive materials. It hooks up to your hi-vac line, so you can pump down to evaporate the flask, then refil with argon. Do this a few times and you have no nasty oxygen left.

Then you can add solvent through a second port (preferably degassed, of course), and let 'er rip.

You should be able to find more detailed instructions in any inorganic chemistry lab manual.

Good luck.
