using agarose for plates - (Jul/06/2006 )

hi all!
i did one blunder... i added agarose instead of agar in lb for preparing plates for bacterial transformants... will it anyway affect my competent efficiency?

-thithitha-

The bacteria will grow anyway. It will not affect either the growth or the transformation efficiency. The transformation efficiency doesn't have anything to do with the plate.

-dnafactory-

As dnafactory said, it'll grow.
Agar and agarose are actually almost the same thing, so no worry that they'll have different effect on bacterial or cell growth.

But it's certainly not a good thing to repeat often (haha) because the cost is almost 10 X different. Agarose more expensive than agar.

Cheers
