Who sells good primary antibodies for Westerns? - Who's your favourite supplier? Least favourite? (Jun/27/2006 )

What company would you prefer to buy primary antibodies from for Western blots, given a choice?

I've had great luck with Cell Signaling: 5 antibodies and every single one worked like a dream with no time wasted fiddling with the conditions; I just followed their directions and poof! Nice clean blots.

Santa Cruz, on the other hand, has sold us a handfull of antibodies, none of which I have ever been able to get a usable result with in spite of much fiddling with protein loading, buffers, times, and antibody concentrations.

I like a lot Abcam antibodies! Never had a problem!
Upstate is also good and another company that sells good ones is Neomarker

Our old lab bought lots of antibodies from Covance and we got good results with the antibodies. My new lab has stocks of antibodies which my PI and others had made.

Based on my experience and those of my colleagues, Santa Cruz Abs are quite crappy (are we allowed to use this word?). We usually go with Upstate/Chemicon but they're a bit pricey though.

I don't like Santa Cruz antibodies but I have to admit that some of them are good. For example I used an anti-p14ARF and anti-E2Fs and they are very good. But Abcam is my favourit! rolleyes.gif

Hi There BioForum,

I wanted to let you know that any antibodies that you have purchased from Santa Cruz Biotechnology that have not worked can be replaced or refunded up to a year after purchase!

The limited information on this particular topic seems to have a general theme of dissatisfaction with Santa Cruz antibodies.

Here at Santa Cruz Biotechnology, we do not want you to pay for a product that does not work, which is why we offer a year warranty on each antibody that we sell.

Please contact our technical service at 1-800-457-3801 ext. 2 or scbt@scbt.com if the products you purchased that are not working have been purchased within the last year. We will gladly replace them or refund your purchase.

Best of luck to each of you in your research.

I agree that I have had mixed results with Santa Cruz antibodies. Some quite good and some real bummers! I think that the best is cell signaling technology's antibodies. They also sell lots of top notch phosphospecific antibodies as well.

We've used the conjugated Abs from R&D systems kits for some of our cytokine Westerns, and they have all worked well. Great if you need to do a WB in a hurry.
If you have one of their duoset kits, there's always excess conjugate provided...

ya the R&D antibodies have worked really well on all the inhouse experiments we have done
