recobinant and chimeric - (May/30/2006 )

is the word recobinant and chimeric is used as the same sense???
i cant understand whether i can call all the recombinant dna, gene or enzyme as chimeric too
could you plz clear my idea??

recombinant and chimeric is not the same.

a recombinant protein has the same sequence than the native protein.
It's prepared from the cDNA of the native protein, and is expressed most often is E coli.
However, even if the sequence is the same, you can have different post-translational modifications because of the different system of expression.

a chimeric protein is a mixture of several proteins.
