Re: some math questions - basic math questions (Apr/25/2006 )

I want to get my cells to 10^6 cells/ml. If I have 10^7, should I add 10^7 to 10 ml? If I have 10^9 cell should I add it to 1000ml?

If I have 5 ml of medium (cells in it) I dilute it to 40ml. Is the dilution factor 8?

Thanks

dilute it to 10 ml not add it to 10 ml (=11 ml), but yes, you dilute 10^7 10 fold and dilute 10^9 1000 fold to get to 10^6 cells/ml.

and yes 5 ml to 40 ml is a dilution factor of eight.
