Micwowave technique for DNA extraction - (Apr/09/2006 )

Recently I have been micowaving some samples for PCR analysis and it seems to work well for certain samples. However I have been reading some other articles and some of them recommend TRiton X-100 mixed in the sample before microwaving to improve the method.

However someone told me to use formamide. What should I use and how much?

Isn't it hazardous to heat formamide, i.e. producing toxic gases? I would avoid it.
