Is it necessary to inactivate ligase after ligation? - (Feb/20/2006 )

Hi,
I have a little question. I am using T4 ligase (Fermentas). Do any of you use this ligase? I've read that the ligase inactivation by heating in 65 for 10 min. could increase number of transformants 100 times. I've never done it before transformation the ligation product into cells, but effectivity of transformation was very low. Is it really so important to do this step?
Thanks for an answer:)
