Triton X-100 and immunofluorescence staining - Does it go bad? (Feb/02/2006 )

I have been using a 10% stock of triton x-100 detergent to dilute to 0.1% for immunofluorescence staining. Someone in my lab just told me that it goes bad if you make a dilution and you should make a fresh triton solution every time. Looking around I found a few immunofluorescence protocols that recommend you make your triton or saponin solutions fresh, but I don't understand why this is. Can someone explain if, why or how a 10% (or other dilution) triton solution goes bad so fast?

I don't know the answer but use a stock solution of even more dilute than 10% TX100 to permeabilize my cells for IHC and IF with no ill effects and I have been doing it for years. I keep it at 4 deg C and wrapped in foil.
