Using the (cheaper) Roche SYBR plate mastermix in capillaries... - Ever tried this? (Jan/31/2006 )

Hi folks,

according to Roche sales personal it is possible to abuse the (much cheaper) Roche SYBR green Mastermix designed for their plate-based systems in the Lightcycler capillaries.

Has anyone of you ever heard this or even tried this?

I've never worked with the capillary based systems, but my recollection is that the major issue is ions from the glass leaching out during PCR. i think this affects Mg++ concentration optima, and that you can get good results by slightly increasing the concentration of Mg++ ions in the mix. Just a vague recollection of discussion several years ago.
