Drying SDS gels - (Jan/12/2006 )
I need an alternative method for drying SDS gels because my drying machine is giving me the headache, it doesn't want to vacuum good or dry wll, it's still wet when I open it so, yeah, help!? LOL
hello
try this
http://www.bio-rad.com/B2B/BioRad/product/...vel=Lit+Request
it's air drying, takes 24 hours, however, you get a really nice result. especially if you want to scan your gels for publication
I only use the drying frames, but not the dryer itself (not bought).
I would recommend however to soak the gel an cellophane in a drying solution : 30% methanol and 3 % glycérol to avoid that the gel cracks.

Thanks, but my PI is not willing to order that, it sucks.
We have no drying machine or frames so to dry our gels we put them on filter paper with a layer of cellophane over the top and squash them under somthing heavy (and old catalogue is good). However this takes about a week!
ok,
other solution would be to stick it on a glass, put some cellophane and stick some adhesive ruban around, let it dry, takes several days, scan it.
however I find it difficult to dry completely, and after more than one week, I stuck the gel in my labbook and then I realized that it was catching the wet around, in atmosphere, and the page beside the gel was no more flat and so on.
however you can keep the scan.
