to prepare westen blot transfer buffer, instead of methanol can i use ethanol. - (Dec/14/2005 )

i am doing westen blottin. methanol in our lab is out off. can i use methanol to prepare the transfer buffer. is there someone who has any idea about this subject

I don't think you can replace methanol with ethanol as they have different chemical properties.

Don't listen to it at all, I use all the time ethanol in Western transfer buffer, and all is going fine.

Don't use methanol, it is dangerous for health.

finally better way is to test.
But with nylon membranes don't use methanol or ethanol as it permeabilizes the membrane. Alos check that point with ethanol if you have though proteins and/or western to do.
