SYBR Safe: how exactly does it work? - (Dec/14/2005 )

So I got a free sample of SYBR Safe from my department, and I know it's supposed to be much safer than ethidium bromide, and it stains nicely, blah blah blah... But how exactly does it stain DNA? Is it an intercalating agent? Thanks a lot!

Couldn't actually see it in a quick scan, but it may be there.
