EST - (Aug/31/2001 )

Can anybody explain what are ESTs and How are ESTs generated?

--

An expressed sequence tag (EST) is a small part of the active part of a gene, made from cDNA, which can be used to fish the rest ofthe gene out of the chromosome, by matching base pairs with part of the gene. The EST can be radioactively labeled in order tolocate it in a larger segment of DNA.

EST is expressed sequence tags. Mostly a cDNA sequence of a ative gene. Total or mRNA is isolated first, and the cDNA made using RT. Try using OligoT adapters for anchoring natural poly A tail of mRNA with a gene specific primer on the other end.
