Discovering Antarctica - marine biologist wants to go to Antarctica (Jul/22/2009 )
Hi pito,
We'd visited Antwerp, Louvain, Waterloo, Charleroi, Ghent and Bruges (and Liege too if I remember it right) but I suppose those are still touristic places...and you're right about Brussels but I guess our (the tourist's) point of reference will always be the capital city..it can't be helped esp for most who are doing a whirl wind tour of Europe...if we want to experience nature, we usually have enough to enjoy at home (esp those special places only the natives "know")...but the cities is a totally different story/perspective....anyways, only my pov.
And tj and I were just teasing each other about beers (that plebeian drink). Belgium is probably the beer capital of EU but I'm no expert and I think hobglobin would vehemently object to this......

But pito's view on Belgium I can only support

Anyway is this now the "Discovering Belgium" thread???

Blood diamonds?

oh yeah, forgot about them bloody ones...then I guess a total abstinence from all kinds of beers is better......
All little better than frogs.
Brussels is not so different from the rest of the country: flemish still live like flemish and francophones like francophones. And then there's all the rest of us! I feel it a little like that.
But still I love it... I just came from "Le Roi des Belges", a bar in a very exciting part of the city, St Gry. Nights with reasonable weather are always great, and the weather will be "good" this weekend (this is a big thing! it has been raining EVRYDAY.... and it's SUMMER!!!)
BUT: Don't forget to vote!

(Thanks for the votes so far)
ahh- the loud place with a spiral staircase?
and the split tea-cup lounge chairs? ....really loud retro music but with a nice terrace for people-watching....

Abstinence from frogs, you meant? Or beers are a little better than frogs? Or is it frogs- the amphibian kind or a sneaky reference to either the Dutch or the French....oh yeah....this speculation is killing me...
