Rewording an incorrect sentence - (Aug/30/2013 )

My manuscript reviewer asked me to reword this because it is incorrect. Why?:

 

It is surprising that although some of the volunteers are positive to the markers, they do not show other clinical signs of cancer or health-related issues.

Perhaps just rewrite it a bit?

 

Some of the volunteers tested positive for the makers, however they do not show other clinical sign of cancer or healt problems.

 

(health problems could be changed for health related issues).

 

Perhaps you could include suprisingly and write it like this:

Some of the volunteers tested positive for the makers, however, suprisingly, they do not show other clinical sign of cancer or healt problems.

or

Even tough some of the volunteers tested positive for the makers,  they do not show other clinical sign of cancer or healt problems.

 

Many other options...

Thanks Pito, I should've written tested positive, not "are positive". That means they are kinda OK with the test :))

Perhaps its also interesting to add a second sentence in which you explain that testing positive does not necesarry mean you have the disease and further testing is needed..

(or maybe you alreade included this).

More study is needed to further validate this finding in order to determine the extent of the issue, and also find the possible reason(s) behind the positivity to tumor markers

I think you are talking about the positive result you found with the test, while in reality they testperson is not sick?

 

 

Future study is needed to further validate the test and to determine why a healthy person can still test positive using this test.

 

Something like this?

 

Or:

 

To narrow down the false positive test a future study will be needed in order to determine the reason for the false positive.

 

 

or:

 

untill now its not yet clear why healthy people test positive for these (specific) tumor markers. Future research is needed to elucidate this problem.

 

Or...

So many options.

 

 

 

 

You could also add a little part about the tumor marks, why it might be positive (give your ideas about the reasons...)

If you have ideas about that, it might be easier to come up with a good text..

 

 

BTW: I am just giving ideas.. not certain they are better than yours or good enough.
