Freezing cells-a problem! - (Sep/12/2005 )

My tech froze a bunch of cells by directly placing them in LN2 (skipping the slow freeze stage). I have never done this before. Are the cells worthless now (viability shot)???

Thanks!

hi
cells are very damaged by quick freezing. you can see a cryopreservation note here. Anyway some cells can survive this treatment. You should thaw them, grow, and freeze the culture by the appropriate procedure.
