How to grow adherent cells without attachment??? - (Aug/22/2005 )

Hiya!

Need help urgent...

I am looking for a way to grow U2OS cells (adherent) in a manner where they do not attach to the substrate base.

What flask materials or treatment can I use?

I have tried using the normal petri dishes for growing bacteria but the cells attached to grow! Short of using Falcon tubes, I am running out of ideas already!

Appreciate your inputs...

Cheers!

Have you tried glass? Cells don't stick to glass.

Many cells require attachment and cytoskelatel spreading in order to replicate. The cells may not grow without attachment and will almost certainly have different charcteristics to attched cells. Cells require a mechanical stress on the cytoskeleton to gorw and divide (Ingber 2003 J Cell Sci 116(8) 1397-1408 is an interesting article about this).
