How to tell if DNA is associated with heterochromatin or not - (Aug/16/2005 )

Here I want to tell whether a strand of DNA in heterochromatin or not. I hope to use CHIP which separated by sequence specific DNA probe. Is this a practical way?

Yes, you can tell by ChIP assay using primers which amplifying the DNA region (~150 bp) of your interest.

You can also do in vivo footprinting to test the resistance of DNA to DNase. DNA associated with heterochromatin tends to be more resistant than DNA in euchromatin.
