Cluster on Unigene - (Aug/16/2005 )

what are the advantages to cluster genes to many clusters in unigeneDB?

Such as

Cluster Size                  Number of Clusters

513 - 1,024 ------------------  1
257 - 512 ------------------ 15
129 - 256 ------------------ 68
65 - 128 ------------------  45
33 - 64 ------------------   96
17 - 32  ------------------  208
9 - 16 ------------------   285
5 - 8  ------------------   396
3 - 4   ------------------ 472
2   ------------------  508
1  ------------------ 1,236

Your example is the stats from unigene db. Cluster size is the number of ESTs in a cluster, number of clusters is the number of clusters that contain a certain number of ESTs in the cluster. The very first example means that there is only one unigene cluster that has over 513 ESTs within it. The last example means that there are 1236 clusters which contain only one EST. This type of clusters are called singleton. One cluster of ESTs usually represents one gene. All member ESTs are sequence related.
