Serum storage - (Jun/27/2005 )

Hello,

After heat inactivating an unopened bottle of FBS on Friday I cooled it in a ice bath and forgot about it on the bench until today, Monday. It is now at 4C. What can happen to the serum after sitting at room temperature for 2 days? blink.gif

well i don't know what really can happen to this serum, but i suppose i may not want to use it for my sensitive experiments.

That's right, I would hesitate to use the serum for sensitive experiments.
However, it should be okay to use it for maintaining cell lines.

It has probably happened to every one working with cell cultures. Agreeing with my fellows, I'd reserve that FBS maybe for freezing cells or for cell line cultures. You'll find a suitable application for it, don't throw it away!
