immortalization vs. transformation - (Jun/12/2005 )

Hi,

Can somebody explain the difference between immortalized cells vs. transformed cells? Do transformed cells have "cancer-like" properties while immortalized cells don't?

Thanks.

hi,
immortalized cells are those cells which are no more having definite life span, that is they can be cultured indefinitely
whereas transformed cells are those cells which are no more anchor dependent along with indefinite life span
so, yes, transformed cells do have cancer-like properties
