fibroblast contamination - cell culture (May/12/2005 )

I am trying to culture bovine chondrocytes, but I'm not sure if they are contaminated with fibroblasts. Can anyone help me? I am using Ham's F12 medium supplemented with 10% FBS. At first, my cells seem to be chondrocytes, but after some days in culture they look that fibroblasts.

I think you will find that your intial cultures are chondrocytes, but that a few fibroblasts in the culture are outgrowing the chondrocytes and dominating the culture.

Thank you very much, I think that I have chondrocytes since they synthesize collagen type II (I probed it with an ELISA two days ago). Thank you.
