pH and osmolarity? - (Mar/19/2005 )

Should pH always be between 7.0 to 7.4 in the medium? What about the osmolarity? huh.gif

Thanks.

hi
for cells, ph should be at a physiological value, and it's about 7 to 7.4. Acidic or alcaline pH damage cells and decrease their viability.
The osmolarity in human blood is 0.307osmoles per liter. That corresponds to 9g/L of NaCl. i don't remember what should be glucose added to the transfusions (point of osmotic pressure between cells and extracellular medium).
hope that answered your questions
