Helping Post-doctoral fellows in life - A new concept (Jan/29/2005 )
I help senior Ph.D students and postdoctoral fellows all over the world work as Consultants for University and Pharmaceutical industries. It pays well by the hour and helps companies and Lab chiefs save money too.
How does it work? Not many can afford a PhD for a long term- yet a senior experienced person is always needed to troubleshoot problems that a lab might be facing. The labchief does not have money to hire you full time but will gladly pay you for a day, 2-days, a week or say 15 days to help students out in the lab.
You can consult by phone, exchange emails or go visit depending on geographic convenience and your own regular work schedule.
You see, life is short. As a married post-doc, you need a life, a family and your kids need your time. You have worked hard for your degree, now put it to work- CONSULT.

I find a particularly rich set of talent among 3rd to 4th year PhD students who have failed many times in their projects and have gained tremendous technique experience. I also find post doctoral scientists doing many projects at the same time particularly useful as consultants.
Publications are not needed or required for you to be a BioConsultant. I just need to see the need within you to use the vast knowledge you have gathered in that doctoral brain of yours. The ship that we call a PhD is a slow leaky boat only if we let it be. It takes a lot of intelligence and patience to get where you are today- now lets use that to make some money that will pay bills and restore your self respect.

Nick - You are not being harsh. It is a legitimate question. We have a fee for the Lab or Group that needs your services. Yes- current post-docs are more than welcome to jump in.
Consultation assignments can last from 2 days to 2 weeks- maybe more. As a post-doc on 'active duty' you may wish to pick and choose your assignments. Some jobs may require only phone/email discussions- others may require you to be onsite. It will be upto you what to take up and what to refuse.
