Paper Writing - Do I write exactly what I see? (Nov/24/2008 )

Dear all,

I have read the Author Guidelines from some journal site and even read a few published papers (in PDF) in the journal.

My question is, do I follow exactly what I saw? Besides the obvious ones like two columns per page, do I have to type in the journal name, short title etc. and whatever I see in the header and footer? I mean, if I don't do that, can my submitted manuscript (converted to PDF format) be edited?

Sorry, my first time in this.

Cheers!

see the "instructions to authors" for the journal in which you wish to publish.

At least you help and support the work of the editors and reviewers. And for a manuscript on a knife's edge, perhaps it helps....

-hobglobin-

try to mimic what other authors have done... to increase the chance of your paper being accepted.

Alright. Will do. Thanks!

And most of the formatting stuff: No.
At least if the journal is not insists (except e.g. italics for latin names). But with two columns, headers in bold fonts and centred, spaces between chapters, justifying text, etc. I'd be careful. Normally the typical style of the journal is done by their editors and layout employees. And use Times New Roman, not your otherwise unknown favourite font.

-hobglobin-

May I ask why Times New Roman?

Everyone has, everyone knows, neutral, all-purpose, space-saving. Okay others are possible too (arial,...) but Times New Roman is the most widespread font.

Dear people,

Wait, don't go yet. Allow me to quote hobglobin: "Normally the typical style of the journal is done by their editors and layout employees".

Does that mean I can type the TITLE, NUMBER the page and then go on typing my paper? See example:

--->TITLE IN THE CENTER<---
abstract
paragraph goes here. justified and indented like in the journal
keywords: one, two, three

Beginning here, all would be aligned left like a normal Word documents

1. Introduction
Text here
2. Materials and Methods
Text here
3. Results
Text here
4. Discussion
Text
References
Minnie Mouse
Hobglobin
mdfenko
etc.

Sorry for being long-winded but I'd like to be clear. I'm basing my question on the format for the Journal of Biotechnology. YES, I've read the author guidelines and am not sure of some things. How is it with you guys? How do you all do it?

Thanks!!!!
