Oligoarray vs PCR Microarray - (Nov/19/2008 )

oligoarray vs pcr microarraysHiii everybody
I am a researcher trying my hand at microarrays , am trying at present pcr microarrays (pcr amplicons spotted on microarray slide as probes ) and cdna as target for hybridisation. But repeated amplifications are time consuming and laborious so was thinking of using oligoarrays . Will it be preferable to use oligos designed for specific genes and spotting them as probes and using genomic dna as the target for hybridisation? while reading somepapers i found that they have used pcr amplicons to hybridise with oligos but then they shall always give a positive signal isnt it but then how can they be used to dtect bacteria?
please i am waiting for your valuable inputs
thank you,
Riddhi

What bacterial genome are you working with? You might be able to get the slides for free from the J. Craig Venter institute. Hence you don't have to make them yourself.

Thnks for the info but am still confused as to why pcr amplicons are used as targets when oligos are used as probes why not cy3 labeled genomic DNA when one wants to use oligoarrays to detect bacteria? please tell me
