Nobel Prizes - (Oct/06/2008 )

The Nobel prize in medicine and physiology were awarded last night for the discovery of
HIV and HPV viruses.
Anyone have any theories why Ron Evans and Pierre Chambon continuously get passed over for their discovery of hormone receptors?

The HPV-prize was more for the discovery that those viruses can cause cancer, an idea initially sneered at ... But it's quite long ago. And from basic research to a marketable vaccine today, also a remarkable event.

Hobgoblin,

Yes, I am aware of the history of HPV and development of said vaccine.
The discovery of hormone receptors has paved the way for numerous
disease treatments including those for cancer (ER in breast, vitmain D for cancer and RAR in APL) and skin conditions, menopausal symptoms etc. etc. etc..
My question is not why does Zur HAusen deserve one, he obviously does, he was a true innovator, my question is why does the Nobel committee continuously snub Evans and Chabon for their monumental discoveries. There must be some politics involved.

They wouldn't be the first and last. There are many. And Zur Hausen also "waited" for many years and was suggested several times. Anyway, perhaps Evans and Chabon will get in some time in future. Wait and see...

Politics influencing the Nobel Committee? I'm shocked, shocked (Casablanca, 1942)...
