Best Breast Cancer Conference to attend? - (Oct/06/2008 )

Hi,

I am currently doing a PhD in breast cancer research but I am the only person in my lab working on breast cancer (predominantly ocular genetics lab) so no-one is really clued in as to which conferences are the best to attend. Any suggestions? I have been to IACR and another few local hospital cancer conferences but have found these to be either very broad (IACR) or very clinical (the others). My project would be fairly molecular with an emphasis on genetics. So just wondering which conferences would be best suited? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

ok, there aren't many. there is going to be one in san antionio in december that is apparantly good (never been... too far away, and my boss won't justify the airfare sad.gif ). there is also going to be an interesting one in Bruges next year... impakt (or some other strange spelling of impact). they're going to have a few interesing speakes (and i'm trying to get funding to go to that one).
i think, while it would be nice to have a conference specifically on the genetics of breast cancer (specifically transcription and translation), going to a conference which looks at other diseases but the same kinda of topic is also good.
i went to a conference of translation last month, and there was 1 talk on breast cancer... but eveything else was really interesting.

Breast Cancer not my field, but have you looked at Keystone symposia? I noticed as I was looking at potential meetings to attend in my field the other day.

They seem have quite specific meetings on cancer and other areas. I've heard they are very good meetings (I've never been able to get to one). The other nice thing is they're in ski resorts- so skiing in the morning and talking later (or something!).

I Like more general discussion in general, because you often find new ideas that way or a different way at looking at your own topic. Thats not to say that specific ones aren't good either.
The other highly specific conferences are the Gordon Conference, they're held every 2 years (mostly in the US) I can't see a specific breast cancer one either, but you should look on their website to see. Its a tough conference- I went to one and it was 5 days 8am to 11pm, but all the major leaders of the field gave talks and being a closed meeting some of it was unpublished.
Anyway- Vetticuswhat are you doing working on your holiday- go enjoy yourself!
