where are all the good institutes? - for a post doc position in biology/genetics/oncology-ish fields (Aug/28/2008 )

Ahoy hoy,

I'm in the process of starting to think about my career... and i'm drawing a blank.
I would love to work in Europe, or Canada, or the USA... hopefully in a cancer, diabetes/metabolism, neurology type fields.
so, what institutes do you guys and dolls think are the movers and shakers of these fields?

Don't forget some of the homegrown institutes. The Garvan and Victor Chang both offer very good work situations. But I understand why you're thinking of overseas posts.

Hi there smile.gif

Where in Australia are you working now? I moved from Melbourne (WEHI) to come to Cambridge, UK. Europe was my first choice because it's so easy to travel smile.gif
If you could a bit more specific about what field you want to work in, I could give you Cambridge advice smile.gif

PS: Happy Friday!

I'm in Bris-Vegas at the moment.
Currently I work in breast cancer. I have 2 published papers (one first aurthor), another that's in the process of being written up (first author), and if my transgenic mice would behave (which they don't) that would be my #3. I have ~1 year to go.
I don't want to stay in Australia.
I want to work in anything... even immunology. I'm adaptable.

It is always good to give a try to the new place but I was wondering apart from this what is another reason why you would like to move?

I am in the process of wrapping up my work too and trying out new places. Have heard good about Canada so I thought of it but even Australia is on my radar map (its so sunny out there, as opposed to home & Canada) Your comments would be very helpful to me. (I am located in Northern Europe)
