Hi guys,

i am planing to go to switzerland for a vacation for 5 days, and i was checking the transportation and car rent prices, and it was extremely expensive.

Do any body know if i can get student discounts or is there is any way to make the transportation cheaper?

Thanks so much in advance

Well, I think there are no active chatters from Switzerland tongue.gif

Or. . hold on for few more hours. Let everyone come home from work. cool.gif

Do it in its poor neighbour Austria wink.gif . Should be cheaper.
Sometimes it is cheaper to rent the car (e.g. online) from your country in advance. Use trains and other public transport.
But Switzerland is an expensive country in all aspects...

tongue.gif you're realy mean dr H...thegen wants to go to one place and you direct him/her to another place..great.

@thegen: your university or institute shld have an office where you can get info about discounted travel packages for students, they shld've good deals too on accommodations (agreements between countries or institutions), you might try the student associations for car pooling possibilities, bus trips (cheap deals)may be better than the train tickets...with the cost of fuel these days, you can't really expect very cheap deals on travel..goodluck..

Here in Basel most of our students travel by tram inside Basel and with Train for other cities, very few have cars the public transportation is pretty ggod in Switzerland and the country is not that large laugh.gif As a student you can beneficiate probably from a "Half tax abo" which would reduce the cost

I meant rent the car in Austria and cross the border, if there are no problems with visa.
Switzerland has many cheap public transport tickets and sales discounts:

Another neighbour would be even cheaper than Austria (but there is nobody around in summer as the inhabitants are all on a well know island in the mediterrenean sea).... just for clarification: I am not talking about France and Italy here tongue.gif

But I am sorry even if close to Switzerland I only know that it is quite expensive.....no help here, sorry!
