Science writing - (Aug/11/2008 )

Hi!

I would like to engage in science-related article writing (not papers, just articles for magazines or websites) and I have no clue where to start. I already have some articles I wrote myself for a college newspaper regarding biomedical science topics (written for lay people) but I would like to make contributions to bigger publications.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

send reports to the journals where you like to publish; as the editors may not know you, send also an academic CV and where you have published before; send samples of your work; do not talk about money

Many professional societies have a semi-technical journal where more casual articles are published. In my field this would be "the Microbe" from Am. Soc. Microbio. and the "SIM News" from Soc. Indust Microbiol.

There's also the New Scientist and Discover but both seem to like the sensational (esp. the former).
