This forum - absolutely great but....... (Jul/16/2008 )

Hey everyone,
This section is for venting so I get to vent my frustration. This is a very great forum which offers really useful advice. Everyone is very mature and totally understanding (researchers are excellent people, lol). My only complaint is when people post an absolutely incomprehensible protocol...... Why can't people see that some of their explanations confuse even more. I do like when people post links (especially the vadlo, which I still don't know what it really means) but even some of these are confusing. I am just concerned that this forum will grow (which is a great thing) but it will get stuffed with useless confusing information. I am just frustrated, sorry everyone, but I do feel some of you agree..... But KEEP POSTING cuz u guys r great.

I know this is just venting so you are not looking for an answer, but let me vent against your vent laugh.gif

1. This forum has already grown enormous, without really big problem

2. when you search google with any "why, how, what kind of questions, it is generally this forum that comes up over many other forums and websites and journals

3. a protocol that is incomprehensible to one may be a god-sent gift to another, it is all subjective. Just choose what you like, ignore the rest (especially posts by a character - cellcounter).. but wait at least read this one laugh.gif

4. sure, there are many explanations for many queries, some explanations are wrong, some are not comprehensive, but that is the nature of a community website with people volunteering to interact.. i.e. I can write a 5 page explanation to somebody's problem about missing pellet, covering absolutely all imaginable scenario, but do I have time to do that? no. Nor anybody else. So, people chip in with what comes to their mind first and leave the rest for teh fellows to fill in.

5. With all its weaknesses, I don't think anything can replace a forum, books, journals or search engines. Forum has a special place. You can say that books and articles and search engines have their own weaknesses, nobody provides personal trouobleshooting of down in the dirt level. Nobody can other than an active forum. And I think Bioforum is the best.

Let us count our blessings laugh.gif

I understand what you're getting at, and yes it happens all the time...

fortunately, you can ignore what doesn't help and take what does.

Also, if you find an offered protocol confusing or unclear, why not send the person who posted the protocol an email and ask for a bit of clearification.

I think most of them want to help, but they may not know how much information you need...

Thanks everyone. I just got a little frustrated, like everyone does and just wanted to whine, lol. Thanks for the input. Do love this forum though.

no worries WeST - consider that folks here have a vast range of experience and those most experienced may leave out protocol elements that they perform without thought or presume everyone already knows.

As others suggested - pursue it via private messages and I'm sure they'll elaborate.
