Standardization of bacterial methiod - What does it mean and more importantly how do i do it? (Jul/08/2008 )

My Professor has taken it upon himself to ask me to standardise the bacterial methods I am using as part of my PhD. I am doing plate counts and serial dilutions, how do i standardise them? What does it mean?
