Dead cell staining on fixed cells - (Jun/16/2008 )

Is there anyway to discriminate dead cells on fixed samples? PI works for live cells but not fixed cells. Invitrogen has the LIve/dead fixable dead cell staining cell kit, which is quite expensive for us because we run many samples at a time. Thanks

Shouldn't the dead cells and live cells have a different scatter profile? use that.
trypan blue is actually a little fluorescent, i think from a 405. it's pretty cheap. or use a different membrane integrity dye.
