The Biggest Losers, UEFA Euro Cup - the definite poll (Jun/13/2008 )

Pages: 1 2 3 4 5 6 Next

Though the clear loser is obviously our non-nerd casandra, here is the POLL.
Although managing it to enter the finals - with a great walkover or just a bumble through with luck - who will lose finally? Master of disaster...
Austria is only there as one of the host teams, more or less for politeness.
An example is Canada's hockey team in this years world cup. Great games, many wins, but finally struck out. The Russian team was just better.

Just found the poll....but the two biggest losers are really missing: Greek (need a miracle to get on) and Italy (unless they surprisingly find back to their from today again). I would like to nominate the referees too, some really were horrible (not only yesterday...I think it never happened before that BOTH coaches were sent off the field in one match ohmy.gif )

Pride goes before fall: Yes Austria is there as host country, and yes we buyed ourselves in because our team would not have made it through the qualification, but at least we were not so bad as our team has been before huh.gif BUT the Germans were playing horrible yesterday...any other opponent than Austria would have kicked them off 5:0! I think the Germans now need the same wonder we would have needed yesterday: Portugal was playing great...good luck Germany, you will need it! tongue.gif

A bit of sour-graping there gebZ biggrin.gif? Even with a lack-luster performance, the Germans still managed to beat the Austrians (yeah, yeah,yeah..it's the referees)....whipped by the big brother eh..that shld hurt wink.gif ..but you're right...the Portuguese will probably whip them back..Pride indeed goes before the fall...so is Austria already out? France and Italy today..shld be very interesting.....

But the Austrians are becoming better, perhaps in the next world or European cup, if they manage it to qualify at all. And become still better.

Nope, not sour....some sort of surprised. I would have expected our national team to play worse still in mind how they lost against Spain 9:0 (1999)...how we lost against Germany again, and again and again (with changing referees tongue.gif) and this time it was not too bad, lost against Croatia 1:0 (who will be a hot tip for champion too), 1:1 against Poland, and yesterday 1:0 against Germany. But it is tradition to act big if we are playing against Germany wink.gif its in our genes (and there will be a new Cordoba yes it will be!!!!!).

And I am sure that nobody in Austria dared to think that we would join the quater-finals....at least we have one point, the Germans have no coach in the next game and the party goes on, as do hooligans (from Austria beating up Germans) ... detail coming soon in rant and rave thread. It is really sad that there have to be always such idiots around who blast the party!

@ hobglobin: you are right, maybe our team improves, some of our players are still young, but our footballers usually get "bader" the better they are payed.... huh.gif

Italy has made it! biggrin.gif
But I still think that the Greek team should be included!

Undeserved, the French were actually better, but had bad luck.
And Greece was out before the poll, one loser team in the poll is enough (the win of the championship before, wasn't it accidentally? wink.gif )

Greece: Trained by a German, last time (2004) they played (ha, ha!) worse than Italy during their best Catenaccio-days....I thought they could have build a brick wall in front of the goal and go for a drink as well....horrible wacko.gif
But they are the biggest looses even if last time they won accidentally....this time so far: 0-points, playing against Spain today... it would be surprising if they make at least 1 point!

The French were unlucky (broken leg), got a red card (got the goal anyway) and seemed to be waiting for some miracle to happen.....looked a little bit like the Austrian team: not bad, but absolutely no structure and running around like headless chickens (although still at least two classes better than Austria!)
Italy had more chances, but their goal-getter seemed to have forgotten that his job is getting the ball INTO the goal huh.gif but yesterday they were obviously the better team; but if they will be able to win against Spain glare.gif?

smile.gif Hey gebZ,
I think you've just promoted yourself to be bioforum's official commentator (but very biased wink.gif ) of the 2008 Euro Cup...so then I can skip watching the hi-lights in the news and sports channel and reading the sports page..yours is a lot more enjoyable to read. Can we have a rounddown now on the top 8 or still not yet?
