Decontamination of virus during infection work - what % of bleach is suitable for viral decontamination and and how lon (Jun/06/2008 )

Hi all,

I recently did some lentiviral infections and I do not know exactly how I have to decontaminate the media including virus. I used bleach but I do not know what % is enough and how long I have to decontaminate in the bleach.

one word..... autoclave!


is percentage of bleach really important? I don't think so, because it is not like 70% ethanol....bleach kills instantly I suppose.

Of course the % of hypo is important, that should be intuitively obvious. For liquid infectious wastes - reg's allow for autoclaving or treatment with a speciifc solution of bleach. For example:
