What is a Klat meter? - (Jun/03/2008 )

Hello all!

I'm new here, but it seems like I'll stick around! Your forum seems really nice! Very nice job!
So I'm saying "hi" with a question:

It may sound stupid though; I don't know I'm a newbie, so please be gentle smile.gif

What is a Klat meter? Or is it Clat meter? Or maybe KLAT (an acronym for something) meter? Can it be just a brand name for some kind of meter? I googled it but didn't find anything useful.
I think it's a meter that is supposed to count the concentration of bacteria in a medium?
Anything comes to your mind?

Please help!!!!
Thank you smile.gif

It's a Klett meter, also known as a Klett-Summerson meter.
Most people now use a UV/vis spectrophotometer.
VWR sells a clinical model that uses test tubes (or Klett flasks) for around $2500.

Thank you very much tfitzwater!
So Klett meter and UV/vis spectrophotometer are used for the same reason?

Did I say it right that the concentration of the microorganisms is what we want to determine when using it? Or is it something else? Their exact number in the medium? etc etc?

Thanks again!

Klett meters are used for measuring the turbidity of a bacterial culture. Values are a different scale from a UV/vis.
