Organ baths - Resting tension (Jun/03/2008 )

Hi there,

Cant memba if ive already asked this question b4...but it asks in our book when we used organ baths "what the importance of resting tension is"...i wrote that is serves as a reference point for each contraction so that u can tell the difference in response with each varying concentration of drug...is this ok?

Thanks in advance.

You are correct.... in a way.

In our lab we still use mouse aortic rings in organ baths. These are contracted with phenylephrine and a dose response recorded. Experiments are normally carried out on rings that are pre-contrated to 75% maximal response....this is then used as the "resting tension".

Kindest regards

? I mean 3 months ago I did the lab involving a organ bath and I probably asked back then what resting tension meant..but I forgot now so asked again...:S
