Male/female sex genotyping in rats - (May/29/2008 )

I think I'm going crazy. I'm looking for a PCR-based protocol for identifying the sex of newborn rats. I use one already for mice, but the primers don't work for other species. I can find protocols for animals as diverse as cows, pigs, and water buffalo, but I've been unable to locate any protocol for rats in PubMed or Google.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks,

Ginger

Don't know about the pcr protocol, but if you are sexing newborns, you don't need a pcr protocol. If you are working with embryos, you need a PCR protocol.

An experienced person can do that just by looking at the distance between anus and genitalia.
