LB - LB (Sep/07/2004 )

Hello everybody!
I´m working in tissue culture, but we have some bacterial contaminations and want to try to eliminate them. For that, we are doing an experiment and need to grow some parts of the explants on tubes with liquid LB.
The thing is:
what´s cheaper?
Buying the bactotriptoe, the yeast extract and the NaCl separately, and prepare the media on our own
or... buying LB already prepared?
(I think this is cheaper and much handier taking in account we usually don´t use this media (LB)...

Well, the thing is I don´t know which one to buy:

Luria agar base, Miller
Luria broth base, Miller
If I´m using liquid agar, The second one, isn´t it?

yes, for liqiud medium you need the broth base.

Iif you don't need that stuff often, maybe some lab in your vicinity can help you out with some LB broth, since it is quite a standard medium to have when one is doing genetics.

I have NEVER managed you get rid of bacterial contamination from my tissue culture. The only thing that worked for me is to bring up new stocks.(=old batch, which were not contaminated)

But good luck..

You can buy LB broth powder, which you simply dissolve in MQ (and autoclave yourself). That's very cheap and not a big hassle...
