looking for a 2-in-1 kit for Genomic DNA/RNA - (May/15/2008 )

Hi everybody, I am looking for a 2-in-1 kit for Genomic DNA/RNA. Can you give me some idea? Thanks a lot!

Trizol is a possibility. I've never extracted only DNA using it, but it can isolate RNA/DNA/protein into different fractions. I've extracted RNA and DNA from the same samples, but the DNA yield was low.

Trizol extracted DNA and protein quality is no good. Depends upon the downstream application though. There should be some good kits available, I dunno.

Hi, you could try Invitrogen's Chargeswitch technology, I've used the magnetic beads but I think there's a column option too.
Chargeswitch binds nucleic acid based on charge, so you'll get both the gDNA and the RNA, the way to purify only one or the other is by using DNase, or RNase.... works really nice, and is quick and easy to use. Also, gives pretty clean preps.

there's also the peqGold TriFast by peqlab

TriFastTM is a complete ready to use reagent for the simultaneous isolation of RNA, DNA and proteins
from liquid samples of human, animal, plant, yeast, bacterial and viral origin. The isolation method for
RNA, DNA and proteins is built on the well-known single step liquid phase separation (RNACleanTM).
This method has been shown to yield undegraded RNA from small and large samples. Also it makes
possible to process a large number of samples simultaneously.
TriFastTM includes phenol and guanidinium thiocyanate in a monophasic solution. After addition of
chloroform the homogenate separates into three phases upon centrifugation. The aqueous phase con-
taining the RNA, the interphase the DNA and the organic phase the protein are processed separately
resulting in RNA, DNA and protein of excellent quality in high yield. Simultaneous purification of DNA
is an effective way to normalize RNA yields from sample to sample.
