Pharmacokinetics - please help! - (May/07/2008 )

Hi folks!

Please could you help a lowly undergrad...

What are the following kinetic parameters used for? More specifically, what do they mean and how are they determined?

I/IC50, I2/IC50

I have no idea of the terms you are asking about. But in case if you are wondering about IC50, it is the concentration of drug/chemical that inhibits the targeted activity by 50%. There is also LD50 (50% of lethal dose for any organism or cells) and EC50 which is used in the same way as IC50, but more refers to agonist compound activity.

actually, LD50 is the dose that is lethal to 50% of the cells or organisms.

IC50 is half maximum inhibitory concentration of a (small-molecular) inhibitor;

is the first I in I/IC50 meant as 1?
