bacterial cell counter - Bacterial cell counter, need to count bacterial cell by automatic inst (Apr/27/2008 )

HELLO,

Can anybody please provide information about Bacterial cell counter. Is There any company which sells such type of instrument. At present I am doing manual plating and counting the colony, but I think it is not so accurate as I found differences each time. I will be very thankful if anybody provide me information about automated instrument for direct count of bacterial cells in broth itself.[/size]Thanks

If you are looking for a device that tells the unique cells in a broth , then look no further , it doenst exist.
(if it does, wich I doubt, tell me about ....)

In most cases they count the cells in a burker counting chamber or they use spectrophotometry to get an idea of the living cells or they plate the cells out like you do...

There is no real automatic system to count cells.

If you really want accurate how about Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) - a flow cytometer. It will count your cells automatically.

However, last I looked FACS systems aren't cheap. Thus owners tend to be a bit touchy when letting other people use the machine.
