what is the media for HUVEC cells? - (Apr/10/2008 )

Hi all,

Can anyone please tell me what media to use for HUVEC cells?? Because i ordered some HUVEC cells and they said i need to get their media and their trypsin if not i would cause irreversible damgae to cells!!!! unsure.gif

So can u please tell me what media I can use and what other supplements it would need and also if it is safe to use the normal trysin EDTA?? Thanks a lot for the help!!!!

are you growing primary HUVECs i.e. do they have a limited life span? For these type of cells, most people use either M199, EBM or the supplier specific medium with specific growth factor combinations.

If you are using these cells for the first time, it is usually good to use the suppliers specified medium and then when you are confident with growing the cells, you can try a cheaper alternative.

I hope this helps,

We use opti-MEM + 10% FBS as a alternative and that seems to work fine for our purpose. We use 1/2 strength of the regular 1X Try-EDTA.
