Primers distinguishing splicing alternatives - (Apr/01/2008 )

Hi all,

I have found a pair of primers for human IL-15 in the literature. This pair is supposed to distinguish between the two splicing alternatives of IL-15.

I used NCBI's BLAST (nucleotide BLAST) to make sure that this pair of primers will actually give two different products. Nevertheless, I got the same length for the two transcript variants of IL-15.

This is the first time I've used BLAST and I'm sure there is something I'm missing unsure.gif .

I'll appreciate any suggestions.

Best regards

the splicing is done after transcription. if you're using ncbi and looking for the region of IL-15 with the set of primers that detects the different products, it is most likely you'll get a sequence of the same size, since it hasn't been spliced yet.
