Expelled - the movie - (Mar/21/2008 )

Pages: 1 2 Next

Hello,

I guess this question is aimed specifically at those who reside in the US. Has anyone seen the Ben Stein Expelled: No intelligence allowed film? I have seen the trailers and a 'great' interview with the unbiased Bill O'Reilly and they make my blood boil. Any thoughts? ... want to start a rant ?

Is anyone tempted to go see it?

isn't this film trying to show that not allowing intelligent design to be taught in the classroom is a violation of free speach?

when is it out?

I believe this is yet another attempt to get creationism taught as a comparable alternative to the modern day 'theory' of evolution. This is something that the Discovery Institute has been trying to achieve for some time. I did sit down and watch one of the creationist dvds that were sent out to schools here in the U.K. and I must say it was very impressive - production value and presentation of 'facts' - I think it would influence kids (should they understand it / care at such an age).

The film is not out until next month, however I had read that they (the creationists) have been doing many free advanced screenings in the US. I hope they do the same here - otherwise I will have to get a pirate copy - I am not going to pay £10 to see it.

I certainly wouldn't give these propagandists my money, but I do want to see it so I can laugh out loud. If it makes it to the standard multiplex theaters I'll buy a ticket to something else, then see it. Perhaps see new Harold&Kumar first then slip into the Ben film for more laughs.

One youtube the parody called "Sexpelled - No Intercourse allowed" is available, quite funny. Have a look: Click me

(Actually there are two versions, don't know which is the original)

apparantly yoko ono is going to be suing the makers of expelled. copyright issues with their use of the song imagine (by john lennon... yoko's late husband... just in case someone doesn't know).

just wondering if the link above should be labelled not safe for work?

In the new science-bashing movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, Ben Stein and the rest of the filmmakers sincerely and seriously argue that Charles Darwin's theory of evolution paved the way for the Holocaust. By "seriously," I mean that Ben Stein acts grief-stricken and the director juxtaposes quotes from evolutionary biologists with archival newsreel clips from Hitler's Reich. Prepare for an intellectual night at the cinema.

initially i had no intention to watch this movie
i believed that ive seen the worst of creationism ad ID already
so i was like: "Well what will they come up with? The banana again? That the eye or the ATP synthase could not have been evolved?
Maybe these exploding bugs again?" I really thought id seen it all.

and then i found this:
http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=aM17EQiZZd4
so please do yourself a favour and go to 7:10. i recommend against watching too much of this video because you might get the urge to smack Ben Stein in the face and break the monitor.

In this video Ben Stein says essentially that today in Germany when people are "old and sick" and cant afford health care they are given a suicide pill.
And he is totally serious!! "Yes. Thats happening a lot in Germany." He even says that these pills are perscribed by doctors.

come on!
i know that ID proponents distort the truth (thats their job!) but i never have seen someone getting away with such a round lie.
