PLZ tell me how to invite a speaker for a lecture? - (Mar/15/2008 )

Hello Everybody
i'm so happy when i come here and discuss my ideas with u all and get the most valuable thoughts from u.

Now i hope to prepare a lecture about "Bioinformatics" in order to say it in a conference which will be held in our deparment.

BUT i need a specialist to share me and supervise me as i'm still a PHD student but i'm so interested in this field of biology.

Can anyone tell me how to organize that and how to contact the specialists in this field????? and if u can suggest me the names of specialists and i can ask them for that.

best regards.

hello Jehane,
the easiest thing for you to do is to contact people in your country (that should be the cheapest option) that work in bioinformatics for your workshop. a person i would like to talk to in person is alexander e vinogradov (aevin@mail.cytspb.rssi.ru) but that is because he's done a lot of relevant bioinformatic things i consider interesting because of my research field. cshl and nih have a lot of people specialized in bioinformatics, in case you are in the us. anyway, the best thing (i think) is to contact the people you would like to invite directly and give them an exact date for a conference. good luck with the organization of your event.

Thank u so much toejam for ur concern. u r right that the cheapesr option to contact people from my country but here they recommended the international cooperation so i hope to try that. i'll try to contact Dr. alexander e vinogradov and i hope that he agrees.

Best regards.

our funding is not enough as any place----------------- but we like the RISK!!!!!!!!!. just kidding smile.gif

PLZ i want to ask u as i see that ur experience in bioinformatics is very well. could u tell me how to begin my way in this field as i'm so interested in computer science and my major is biology. i tried before to do my thesis in bioinformatics but the specialists here see that this field is special for computer scientists not for biologists. (i don't agree with that opinion).

thanks so much for ur cooperation.

i don't agree either with the statement that only computer scientists can do bioinformatics, however, it is a great plus! i'm no computer scientist either and if there is no one to help you in this it can take a lot of time and patience. there's this page that is useful http://www.linuxforums.org there are some useful tutorials about perl and python. i'd recommend you before learning to program you should know what's the problem you want to solve. also get some eye drops, after spending 6+ hours in front of the monitor your eyes might get a bit red at the beginning. now i need my daily doses of pc monitor radiation.

Hi my question is little bit different. I am sitting on the computer all the time and not so much sleep i have and my eyes are red all the time, do you think i should use some eye drops for that, it will help me, what should i use and can some eye exercise is there and how to avoid the danger of sitting on computer

hi samita, have you seen the linux mascot? it is a penguin called Tux. i think it looks like many programmers, after sitting at the computer the whole day it is most likely you will gain a few kg if you don't do any excercise at all tongue.gif
it is suggested that for every hour infront of the pc you rest around 15 minutes, stretch, look somewhere else and not focus on the monitor all the time, have a cup of coffee, etc etc... eyedrops should help you with the eye irritation and reduce the red color. to avoid danger of injuries because of sitting in front of the computer get a comfortable chair (i thinkt he term physiotherapists use is ergonomics), rest your wrists so that they're not always tense, don't bend your back and so on, all the advise you get when sitting anywhere else.
about not sleeping, it could be for so many reasons, stress? try to relax before sleeping, there's a post somewhere about someone else not being able to sleep, you should take a look. all the best.
